Kolmer recently made a delivery of Permanent Magnet motors for the drives of two ventilators. The original motivation for this project was to realize a significant improvement in power consumption, aiming for a 10% energy savings or more, if at all possible.

It is not easy, however, to find a solution through a purely theoretical model. This led Kolmer to set up a testing unit where an existing motor could be tested. An IE2 motor was equipped with a similar frequency converter as the one that was already in actual use.

For the second step, a PM-motor (P4MC series) from Kolmer was selected and the test was performed again. The results were undeniably clear: at a high rpm speed, the power consumption was reduced by 11% while at a lower rpm, the energy savings were as high as 25% at half the rpm speed of the ventilator and reached up to 48% at an even lower speed.

Given these test results, the deal was quickly made and with the new installation presently in operation, new energy saving can commence. Do you also have a challenge with energy saving and electric motors?
