Great energy savings though the application of PM motors in ventilators
Kolmer recently made a delivery of Permanent Magnet motors for the drives of two ventilators. The original motivation for this project was to realize a significant improvement in power consumption, aiming for a 10% energy savings or more, if at all possible.
It is not easy, however, to find a solution through a purely theoretical model. This led us to set up a testing unit where we could experiment with an existing motor where the IE2 motor was equipped with a frequency converter that was already in actual use.
For the second step, we charted the adjustment range with the related figures of the power and utilizing a PM motor from Kolmer’s P4MC series, we repeated the test. The results were undeniably clear: at a high rpm speed, the power consumption was reduced by 11% while at a lower rpm, the energy savings were as high as 25% at half the rpm speed of the ventilator and reached up to 48% at an even lower speed.
Given these test results, the deal was quickly made and with the new installation presently in operation, new energy saving can commence.
